Welcome of Mentor High School Hockey
Things to know for the upcoming season…
1. School Schedule
Each player should have MOD 15/16 off on their schedule or assigned to hockey
If not please contact the school as soon as possible to let them know the student is a hockey player
Best suggestion is call Unit 9 principal or Unit 10 principal and check with them about status of MOD 15/16
2. What will the student do during MOD 15/16 if not in school?
All players not involved in a FALL sport will report to Mentor Civic Rink for conditioning or a place to be determined by the coaches. This will begin on/or about week 2 of school. By school rule all Freshman and Sophomores not making varsity must report to assigned study hall.
3. How will the player get to the Mentor Civic Center after school?
Players walk over and will be on the ice by a specific time per coach’s direction
4. How will the equipment get to the Mentor Civic Rink?
The high school has a locker room where the equipment will be housed until teams are picked
Once teams are picked JV players will not attend ice time during MOD 15/16 unless requested by the coach
JV players will take their hockey bags home and have practice Tuesday & Thursdays at assigned time frames
5. When are teams picked?
The high school hockey regular season basically starts around Thanksgiving and ends in February
Players will be notified before first tournament (Thanksgiving) what team they will be on for the upcoming season
Some players may be asked to play on either team by notice of the coach during the season
6. What happens next?
Once varsity squad is picked a practice schedule will be announced
Once jv squad is picked a practice schedule will be announced
7. What happens to JV squad players during MOD 15/16?
Per school regulations ALL freshman and sophomores must attend a study hall as assigned
The school will assign this in their schedules
Upperclassman will be able to leave the campus during MOD 15/16
8. Booster Club?
The Booster Club is made up of volunteers
Meetings are held every second Tuesday in Lecture C at the high school
Start time is 7:00 pm
It is important that all parents try to attend regularly since there is information given and decisions made for the season and the next season
All are welcome and encouraged to attend (even grandparents)
9. What tournaments are we attending?
The coach will arranged for the team to attend tournaments each season for both the Varsity and JV squads
Information about tournaments will be available at booster club meetings later in the year
10. How are the players transported for all games (Varsity and JV Squads)?
Players will arrive in shirt and tie to the Mentor Civic Rink one hour before all home games
Players will arrive in shirt and tie to the Mentor Civic Rink at a designated time for all away games 2 hours before the game is scheduled to start
A school bus will be transportation for both teams for all games and local tournament games
Parents will drop off and pick up as needed
11. Team Dinners – what are they and who are they for?
Team Dinners are for all players (Varsity & JV Squads)
Team Dinners give the players a chance to be together and get to know each other
Dinners are held, when possible, on the Thursday before a VARSITY home game
Schedule will be printed on the team website
If the dinner is at a restaurant then the players will need to bring money for a tip
If not the dinners will be held at the high school in the life style room across from the student ctr
Some team dinners will ask the parent to participate in bringing food and/or beverages and for set-up and clean-up
12. Pay to Participate Fee
This is paid to the school and does not guarantee time on the ice
13. Booster Club Fee
There was a fall ice charge of $250.00ish per family
Not sure what it will be this year will be announced at first Blue Line Club meeting or during summer sessions
14. Fund Raising (all subject to change)
1. A Golf Outing - July 18th at Blackbrook Country Country Club
- each family and player are asked to participate in some way (get donations, get a foursome etc.)
2. Lake Erie Monster’s Game (TBA)
- The VARSITY team will have the opportunity to play a game on the ice at the Q
- Each player (both teams) will be asked to sell as many tickets as possible for this event
- The ticket will allow the buyer into the high school game and then for the Monsters’
game that evening at the Q
3. Spirit Wear
- Spirit Wear for the team will be available this year
- The order forms will be handed out at the end of summer season and again during the
fall Booster Club meetings
- Orders will be placed the first of November and will be available for Christmas gifts
- This year embroidered blankets and embroidered wind shirts will be available
- T-shirts, hoodies and sweat pants will be available
- Order forms will have the logos available for each item on them

17. Differences between Youth Program vs High School program
- high school is governed by the Ohio Athletic Association in Columbus

- there is valuable information on this website
- Coaches have limited available contact between end of season and beginning of new season
- Coach may or may not be at all games this summer because of these rules
- Coaches are allowed complete contact the first full week of November
18. Summer Jerseys
These jerseys will be returned to coach at the end of summer games
Any damage or lost will result in payment due by family (Parents)
19. Refunds
There are no refunds of eligibility issues because of grades
There are no refunds because player has been suspended (includes tournaments)
No refunds for injury
20. Please remember to wait 24 to 48 hours after any incident before contacting the coach
